Founded in 2005, the band has regularly practiced and performed in various events since its inception. They have participated in the Dabangan Jazz Beer Cultural Festival, Left Bank Music Festival, Chiayi City International Band Festival, Ferris Wheel Summer Music Festival, and the "2005 Taipei Fun" MRT-themed music event, among others. The Onyx Jazz Quartet won first place in the "Chrysler & ICRT Jazz Band Competition."
