Toshi Fujii, widely known as a jazz drummer and bassist, has been an active participant in the Taiwan jazz scene. In recent years, he has stepped into the spotlight as a jazz harmonica player, impressing audiences with his uniquely evocative sound. Last year, Toshi celebrated a milestone of two decades of musical dedication in Taiwan, achieving remarkable success in both performance and teaching, and becoming a significant influence in advancing contemporary music trends. At this year’s Taichung Jazz Festival, Toshi will team up with his long-time acquaintance, renowned Japanese jazz pianist Makoto Kuriya, praised internationally for his sharp musical sensibilities and diverse musical styles. Together with Kuriya’s trio, they will give a collaborative performance. By blending the nostalgic charm of jazz harmonica with modern sonic textures, the quartet will create a fresh style and usher in a new chapter in jazz music—Neo-Hardbop!
