The School of Rock is located at the intersection of Wenxin Road and Gansu Road in Taichung City. It has cooperated with the Taichung Jazz Festival in 2023 to organize youth jazz big band selection and training camps. In the same year, the School of Rock Jazz Band (SORJazz) was established, and has since collaborated with famous foreign and local artists on various performances and courses.

School of Rock is committed to promoting ensemble education, which is not limited to rock or pop. The jazz ensemble classes at School of Rock give students who are passionate about jazz the opportunity to have the guidance of professional teachers, and share the freedom and spontaneity of jazz with the audience at every jam session and performance.

SORJazz is led by Daniel Chen, who returned from Berklee and is now in charge of coaching the jazz ensembles at School of Rock. He formed a group with other teachers from SOR and invited trombonist Michael Wang and Chunyu Kuo to perform together at this year's 2024 Taichung Jazz Festival.

Michael Wang

Trombonist Michael Wang is an emerging talent in the international jazz scene. Born in Taiwan and raised in the United States, he received a full scholarship to the Berklee College of Music and studied there from 2012-2017. After Michael graduated, he moved to New York and began to collaborate with artists such as Mingus Big Band, Frank Lacy, Slide Hampton, Valery Ponomarev, and Josh Evans Big Band. In 2020, he released his first album "Bone of the Wang Vol. 1".

However, the good times did not last forever. In March, the epidemic suddenly broke out in New York, affecting countless jazz bars. The future was bleak. After months of silence, he decided to return to his birthplace, Taiwan, to find new opportunities to play. After returning to Taiwan, he performed throughout the country with the Taipei Jazz Band, Tangchuan Band, Andy Jaffe Septet and his new quartet. In 2023, he released a new album "My Influences", which includes a quartet composed of pianist Xu Yuying, bassist Liu Yujia and drummer Huang Ziyu. He hopes that through his performance, Taiwanese friends who like jazz can appreciate traditional New York Bebop first-hand, and then have more in-depth exchanges with domestic musicians.
